The receiver that is installed onto each locomotive filler neck utilizes a military specification dry break connection to ensure the minimum amount of fuel loss when removing the nozzle from the locomotive. The connection is designed to have less than 1 cc of fuel loss between the two when decoupled.  Additionally, the self-contained hydraulic shutoff mechanism ensures that the tanks cannot be “topped off” which often results in fuel spillage. Once the tank has reached a full level, no additional fuel can be put into the tank preventing spills caused by overfilling tanks.  The poppet on the dry break connection also keeps fuel from sloshing out of the filler neck on a full fuel tank as the locomotive operates through curves or in the event of a derailment.

The SpillX nozzle also has built in safety features which help to reduce the risk of accidental fuel spillage by not allowing the nozzle to be engaged until it has been connected to the locomotive. Similarly, the nozzle cannot be disconnected from the locomotive unless the flow out of the nozzle has been turned off.
